Often times we face decisions that will determine the rest of our life, or sometimes a decision whether to have coffee in the morning or cereal. Everyday we are faced with decisions.
I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which though shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye. Psalm 32:8 KJV
After I graduated High School all these choices started popping up. Should I go to college, should I stay home and work on the farm, should I join a mission group, should I move and volunteer at a nursing home; what would I do next? After finding what I wanted to do and where God needed me to be, I am still forced to make decisions that will determine where I go from here. And frankly, I’ve learned, that will never change.
With all this, as I grow older, I learn each day that I am not in charge of my life. I am faced with all these choices. And I may spend hours, days, weeks, months thinking about them, but at the end it wasn’t my choice at all.
We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps. Proverbs 16:9 NLT
Lately I’ve been reading a lot about guidance in my devotional. Howard Bean, in Daily Truth for Godly Youth, writes about letting God guide you. He says, God delights in guiding His children. With all these opportunities, now in my youth, and all my life, I find peace in knowing that I am not forced to make decisions on my own.
In my experience, the best way to make a decision, is to pray about it. Let God guide us in our life. In the big and little, He guides us. He holds our lives in the palm of His hands and He will direct our paths.
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:5,6 KJV
